Piotr Karwasz studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and obtained a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Nancy in France.
Since 2002 he has been active in the Open Source community, where he started by providing technical support on forums and graduated to code contributions and project maintenance. Shortly after Log4Shell he joined the Apache Logging Services team. In September 2023 he became a full time maintainer, thanks to the support of the Sovereign Tech Fund.
